“Photo does not match” — Vietnam e-Visa
Vietnam's portal does something unusual: it compares the face in your visa photo against your passport bio-page scan. When it says the photos don't match, one of the two images — or the format around them — is the problem. Here's each cause:

Each cause, and how to fix it
Wrong frame — not 4×6 cm portrait
- Why it fails
- The photo slot wants a 4×6 cm (400×600 px) portrait. Square or 35×45 crops fail before the face-match even runs.
- The fix
- Re-crop to the 4×6 portrait frame — the tool locks Vietnam's exact dimensions.
Face-match score too low
- Why it fails
- Old photos, heavy filters/beauty modes, or big appearance changes (beard, glasses, hair) lower the similarity score against your passport.
- The fix
- Use a recent, unfiltered photo. Keep editing to background and crop only — exactly what this tool limits itself to.
Poor passport scan
- Why it fails
- Glare across the bio page, low resolution, or a skewed angle degrades the passport side of the comparison.
- The fix
- Re-scan the passport flat, without flash glare, all four corners visible and text readable.
Background not white
- Why it fails
- Vietnam requires a plain white background; busy backgrounds also degrade face detection itself.
- The fix
- Replace the background with clean white in the render.
Frequently asked questions
The portal computes a similarity score between the face in your photo and the face in your passport scan. Below its threshold, submission is blocked. You can't see the exact number — you can only improve both images.
